During this pandemic, the online tutoring industry has seen a huge boost. Mostly because most of the people were stuck in their homes, so they looked for ways to learn new things or improve their skills.

Learning new skills online is ideal because you can do it from the comfort of your home. Most of the time, online learning is significantly cheaper than face-to-face learning too. For example, it can be lonely learning all by yourself, and with no face-to-face interaction, you can’t ask questions as they occur to you.

Be Motivated To Learn
It goes without saying that learning any skill is easier if you want to learn it. But even if you want to learn a new skill, your enthusiasm might wear off as the lessons become more challenging. Therefore, having a good reason, and continually reminding yourself why you are learning the skill(s) in the first place, is helpful to stay motivated.
Decide On Your Prefered Method Of Learning
Some people understand new information best if they read it. Some people prefer listening to the audio, while still others like watching videos to learn. Consider your learning style and what you will be learning before you find the perfect course.
Find The Right Instructor
It is always ideal to find someone who complements the way you like to learn. Some instructors are slow and meticulous, some are quick and to the point. Some instructors have annoying voices, and some may use distracting words while explaining things. Be sure to watch/ listen/ read their sample work before you commit to any online course.
Also, consider what you want out of the online course you are taking—do you need in-depth knowledge about a subject, or is that not required for your purposes?
Find The Right Time To Learn
Some people learn a better first thing in the morning after a cup of coffee, some people feel that they absorb later at night. Decide the time and environment that fits your learning style best, and stick to it. Also, make sure you are rested before you start learning. Tired minds absorb less information.
Create A Routine
It is easy to start any online course. Finishing it is a different story. However, creating and sticking to a routine can improve your chances of finishing what you start.
Consciously take the time to figure out a routine that will work best for you. It could be as simple as sitting at the kitchen table from 6-6:30 am, with a steaming cup of coffee to accompany you.
There is, unfortunately, no better way to figure out the perfect routine than through trial and error. Allow yourself a week or so to figure it out.
Take Your Time, Rest When Needed
If the course will take 10 hours to finish, that does not mean you have to do all 10 hours in one day. Also, by taking in too much information on any given day, you run the risk of not retaining the things you have learned.
Rest when you feel yourself getting tired, you’re unable to pay attention, or you’re getting distracted. There is no sense in cramming, and there is certainly no sense in trying to learn something without retaining it.
Allow Yourself Time To Learn
In order for instructors to teach us a skill, they have to be experts at it. To become an expert takes a lot of time. They did not become experts overnight, and you should not expect that for yourself. Allow yourself ample time to become familiar with everything.
Depending on your background, some information will be easy to understand. Some may be harder and you may need more time. It’s okay to go back to reread or rewind certain parts. For example, if your course is through video, you might prefer watching a lesson once, then going back and follow along.
Take Notes
The information you are learning is new to you. It is unlikely you will remember everything after the first review. Therefore, make notes of anything that is important to remember. This saves you from needing to go back to find bits and pieces.
Implement What You’ve Learned
Now that you’ve learned something new, practice as often as possible. Be okay with making mistakes. If you do make mistakes, go back to your notes or review the material again. You are likely to learn more from your errors, than the course material.
With continued practice, it will eventually get easier.

In my opinion, there are three major things that can make a huge difference in the quality of online teaching:

1. First of all, you should always research the needs and pains of your audience. Make sure you really know what your listeners or viewers are looking for and what their biggest challenges are before you create the course and prepare the content.
2. Secondly, ask for feedback on a regular basis. Make sure that your listeners/viewers have an opportunity to leave their feedback for you. That will help you constantly improve your content and your online teaching skills.
3. Last but not least, take care of the technical side. No matter how awesome your content is, nobody will be able to appreciate it if your mic doesn’t work properly or the Internet connection keeps failing.

The key to learning new skills online is understanding the bigger picture or the context of the topic you are learning about. Before I get into the fine details of what I find to be the most helpful processes of going about acquiring or transferring a skillset it’s a bit more appropriate to learn very quickly about myself. I’ve run a Social Media Marketing business specializing in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) since late 2016 and have generated multi million dollar results for my clients. During this time period, I’ve managed to rank most of the “most difficult keywords” online- like Loan Keywords, and even Bitcoin in 2 countries!
But I was only able to do this by seeking out expert advice.
In a nutshell, what I did was find people that I could easily verify to have results for themselves AND their clients first. Then I just copied everything they were doing, while finding other experts and taking pieces of what they were doing to make a “more complete” system. The end result is an extremely well-rounded process.
During my time as a student, I was also implementing- first on myself, then on my clients; meaning that once I was able to get a proof of concept on my own website’s campaign- I would simply repeat it over again on a client- just simple rinse and repeat. I think what really made this stick for me, was after I learned something new I would either write it down or consult with someone else in the field- and that’s the advice I would give to anyone willing to learn. Once you learn something, discuss your idea with others and see if it matches their experience as well.
I’ve taught SEO to a couple dozen people mostly friends, and I think what really matters when it comes down to teaching is crystal clear communication. You have to know the other person’s concern better than they even do- otherwise, you will fail as a teacher.
A way to help you with that right away is to actually write down your own SOP (standard operating procedure) straight away. If you have a system in place that you would feel comfortable giving to someone else, they can read it and understand it- implement it AND get the same results you yourself are capable of, then you ultimately built a “business in a box” or something you can sell/teach to other people.

Learning a new skill online is a 3-step process.
The first step is to learn how to learn.
Exactly!
We all know how to learn because we went through the school of life and also regular schooling.
But how many of us have taken a course where they learned how to learn things effectively?
Very few.
This is an optional step, but I highly recommend it as it’ll make the learning process of any skill 3x easier and faster.
The second step is to start taking the course and absorbing as much information as you can.
While gathering and having a lot of knowledge can’t replace the motor skills of actually doing it, you need to have it because you must understand what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.
The third step is to put into practice what you learned. Doing X is the only way you’ll actually master it for life.

Learning new skills online isn’t new. In fact, it might even be easier than ever due to the ever-increasing amount of insight and resources out on the web.
